アメリカのスーパーマーケットを楽しむ <Enjoy Supermarket in USA>

アメリカでは少し大きな町にはウォールマートがいくつかある。

There are "Walmart" stores in large town.

自分のアパートの近くにもあって、他のスーパーよりも安めなので普段からよく利用している。

I usualy use it that is near my apartment because they sell products with resonable prise.

店内には食料品以外にも家財用品・スポーツ用品・電気用品・車用品・薬局・園芸用品などがあり、初めて入ったときには大きいなと感じたが、もう慣れてしまった。

The store has not only groceries, but also household goods, sporting goods, electrical goods, car parts, pharmacy, gardening goods, etc. When I first entered the store, I felt it was big, but I have gotten used to it.

釣りのシーズン券も買ったし、キャンプ用品もそろった。しかも安い。

I bought fishing license and camping goods. and they were cheap.

先週は、血糖値測定機を買ったが、50回分の検査シートもセットでわずか$19だ。

In last weekend, I bought a blood glucose meter with a set of 50 test sheets for only $19.

もうだいたい何がどこにあるか、だいたい幾らぐらいかを把握している。

I almost understand where I can find somethings and how much they are.

毎週同じようなものを買ってしまうが、ここで私の楽しみの一つは、”かっぱえびせん”を買うことだ。

I useally buy almost the same goods in each week. But one of my favarit is to buy "Kappa Ebisen (Shrimp snack)" that is Japanese snack.

アメリカでは日本のおかきやスナックは高いが、ここのかっぱえびせんは227gで$3だから日本と変わらないと思う。

Japanese snack in US is more expensive than it in Japan, but the "Kappa Ebisen" seems to be a similer prise, I guess.

たまに”あられ”も売っていて、これも日本と値段は変わらない。

In rare cace, they sell "Arare (Rice snack)", and the prise is also similer with it in Japan.

いくつかの味の”あられ”が入っているが時々ものすごく強烈に辛い粒が入っている。日本ではこんなのないだろうな。

There are several tastes "Arare" inside, and one of the tastes is too much hot. I believe there isn't such taste in Japan.

もう一つの楽しみは、アメリカ人には馴染みのない野菜を買うことだ。

My another fun is buying vegitables that are not popular in US.

”白菜”を買ったときに、レジの方がこれは何だと聞いたので、英語名は知らないが、日本語では”白菜”だと答えたら、なんと買い物後のレシートには”レタス”となっていた。

When I bought "Hakusai (= Chinese Cabbage)", the cashier asked me what it was, and I answered that I didn't know the English name, but in Japanese it was "Hakusai". Then, I confirmed that it turned to "lettace" on the receipt.

まあ、似てなくもないが、と思って納得したが、その次の週にまた”白菜”を買ったら、今度は”ブロッコリー”になっていた。

I agree it looks like "lettace". But when I bought it again in next week, it turned to "Bloccoli".  

次は何に化けるのか楽しみだ。

I'm looking foward to next change. 

そう言えば別のスーパーでも”ごぼう”を買った時も、これは売り物かと聞かれたな。

I remenber that I was asked if it is goods for sale when I bought "Gobou (Burdock)".

きっと食べ物には見えなかったんだろう。

I guess it didn't look like food to them.
