フロントガラスの修理を楽しむ Enjoy repairing of Front-glass
自分は修理や改造をするのが好きだ。
I like to repair or improve something.
革靴やカバン、服を修理したり、時には趣味の遊び道具を改造して楽しんでいる。
I useally enjoy repairing leather shoes, bags or clothes. Also I enjoy improving my hobby staffs.
今回は車のフロンドガラスにクラックが入った。修理を経験するにはいい機会だ。
In this time, my car has cracks on front glass, and it's good chance to repair them.
スキーの帰り道で、田舎のフリーウェイを走っていた。
I was returning on freeway in country side after skiing.
200~300m前方の側道に停車中の乗用車から運転手が下りてくるのが見えた。
I saw driver taking of a parked car beside the way 200 meters ahead.
パンクや故障でもしたのかと、速度を落として通り過ぎようとしたした瞬間、ピシッと大きな音が聞こえた。
I thought his car may have flutt-tire or breakdown, and I slowed down. When I passed it, I heard big sound.
直ぐにフロントガラスに小石か何かが当たったんだと思った。
I thought suddnly something hit my front glass, like a pebble.
運転しながら、もう少し減速して、フロントガラスを注意深く観察した。
I slowed down more and observed carefully.
傷はフロントガラス中央部の少し運転席側に直ぐに見つかった。
Scratch was observed on the driver's side of the center.
異物が当たった部分と、そこから両側にほぼ水平に延びたクラックが発生していた。
There are the scratch and cracks that expand horizontaly both side from the scratch.
クラックは、左右とも2cm程度で、かなり大きかった。
The cracks were about 0.8inch in both sides (1.6inch totally).
自宅アパート近くのBaxter Auto Partsで修理キットを購入した。
I bought a repair kit at Baxter Auto Parts that is near my apartment.
修理キットには傷のサイズは1.25inchまでと書いているので、今回のものはずっと大きかった。
The kit says maxmum damage size should be 1.25inch, so my damege was larger than it.
しかし、ガラス交換となると10万円と聞いていたので、イチかバチかやるしかなかった。
However, I had no choise because it takes about $1,000 for changing of front glass.
交換キットは2,000円ぐらいだった。
The kit costs $17.
傷に残ったガラスのかけらをほじくり出し、アルコールでふき取った。
At first, I removed residus from the scratch, then I cleaned with alchole.
両面テープでシリンジ固定冶具を取り付け、UV硬化樹脂を流し込んだ。
I attaced a jigu with both-side tape for fixing silinge, then I poured UV cured resin.
シリンジを取り付け、ピストンを引いて真空状態にして1時間程度放置した。(取扱説明書には最低20分と記載されていた)
I fixed the silinge and pulled pistone for keeping vacume, then I wait for one hour. (The kit's manual said "wait at least 20minutes.")
両面テープと冶具の直径は5cm程度で、幸い傷は全体を真空状態にすることができた。
The both-side tape and the jigu were 2inch in diameter, and they can keep vacume whole of the dameges.
この間にヒットした傷と両側に伸びるクラックに樹脂がしみ込んで行くことを願った。
I hope the resin soak in dameges.
1時間後に車内側から確認したがまだ傷とクラックが見えたので、ピストンを引き直して再度真空にしてさらに1時間待つことにした。
I confirmed dameges from inside of the car one hour later, but I saw dameges, so I re-pull ristone and continued waiting more one hour.
合計2時間後に再度確認したが傷とクラックが見えたが、樹脂硬化前には屈折率が違うからかもしれないと思い、次の工程に進んだ。
I waited two hour totally, but even so, dameges were visible. I thought resin's refrection index may be different before curing. And I proceeded next step.
冶具と両面テープをカミソリの刃で外した。
I removed the jigu and both-side pape by lazer.
次に、UV硬化樹脂を傷とクラックに塗布し、透明なプラスチックフィルム(5cm角程度)をその上に置いた。
I put the resin on the dameges and covered them with transparent prastic film.
UV硬化樹脂はフィルム全体に広がった。
The resin spreded whole of the film.
取説には日光下で15分間(曇り下では1時間以上)で硬化すると記載されていたが、既に真っ暗だったので、フィルムの周辺をセロテープで固定し、次の日まで放置することにした。
The manual says put the car sunny day for 15 minutes, but it was dark already, so, I fixed the film with scotch tapes and left until next day.
次の日にもスキーに出かけた。
I went ski next day too.
スキー場到着まで1.5時間、傷が広がらないようにゆっくりと慎重に運転した。
It takes 1.5 hour for arriving ski ground. I drove slowly for not expand the cracks.
到着時にはUV硬化樹脂は固まっていたと思う。
I thought the resin cured when I arrived there.
車内からも外からも傷とクラックを見た。
I checked carefully if they were still visible.
よく見ると、全く見えないという事は無いが、かなり見えにくい状態になっていた。
They were visible, but quite difficult to see.
ただし、見えにくくなっているだけで、強度的には弱くなっているはずだ。
I belive they just are difficlt to see, however they weeken in terms of strength.
なお、樹脂もフィルムも透明で運転には支障が無いので、しばらくはこのままフィルムを付けたままにしようと思う。
Additionally, the cured resin and the film are transparent and aren't obstacle for driving, so I won't remove them.
