ザイオン国立公園を楽しむ<Enjoy Zion National Park>
ザイオン国立公園はどうしても行きたかった公園の一つだ。
<Zion National Park is one of the Park that I wanted to visit strongly.>
自分が大学生の時、友達三人で訪れた公園の中で最も魅了された公園だ。
<When I was university student, I visited there with two friends, and that was what fascinated me the most.>
下から見上げる垂直に切り立った岩壁は、荘厳さや見ているだけで畏怖の念さえ抱いてしまうが、その一方で夕焼けに赤茶けて輝いたそれは訪問者に感謝の気持ちを表しており、帰り際に別れを惜しんでいるかのようにも感じた。
<The vertically sheer rock walls that we looked up at from below were majestic and even awe-inspiring to behold, while the reddish-brown glow of the sunset expressed gratitude to the visitors, as if they were bidding us farewell as they were leaving.>
今回は運転に不慣れな自分一人だが、約8時間の道を心躍らせながら進んだ。
<In this time, I excited to drive 8 hours.>
公園内のキャンプ場は空きがなく予約できなかったので、近くのSpringdaleの町の安いモーテルに泊まった。
<There wasn't vacant slot at camping site, so I stayed Springdale that closes to tha park.>
翌朝、早く起きて公園に向かった。公園入口で年間パスを見せ、地図と最新情報が書かれた冊子をもらった。
<I visited in the early next morning. I got map and the note that includes the latest news at the entrance gate. >
公園内はシャトルバスも走っているが、自家用車の乗り入れも可能だ。
<There are Shuttle-BUS in the park, and entering own car was also possible.>
たぶん、ものすごく混んでいるときには駐車場の空きを探すことも大変だろう。そんな時はシャトルバスがいいかもしれない。
<I thought that it was not easy to find a vacant parking slot in high season. At such season, the shuttle-BUS should be better.>
早速、トレイルを楽しんだ。
<I enjoyed trails.>
もう、右を見ても左を見ても圧倒される風景しかない。
<There are a lot of overwhelming views.>
多くの景色を写真におさめながらトレイルを楽しんだ。
<I enjoyed taking of banck of photos during trail hike.>
そうこうしている内に、目的地の展望台までたどり着いた。二時間のハイキングもあっという間だ。
<In the meantime, I arrived at destination, the observation deck. I felt the two-hour hike passed in a flash.>
また別のトレイルに入る。ここはThe Narrowsに向かう道だ。
<I continued enjoying another trail. Next is for the Nallows.>
岩壁と岩壁の間の細いトレイルを進んだ。この先は小川の中を進まなくてはいけない。
<I went into the path between walls. From here, people have to go in the creek.>
自分はここまでで引き返したが、なんて素敵はトレイルだろう。
<I gave up here. But the trail was amazing!>
町に降りて一泊した。二日目は本当はKolob Kanyonに行きたかったのだがこの時期は閉鎖されていたので、また同じ入り口から入った。
<Then, I backed the town and stayed. I wanted to go Kolob Kanyon in the second day, but it was closed, so I entered the same.>
まだまだ楽しむべきトレイルは沢山ある。
<There are a lot of trails that I should enjoy.>

夕方、公園を出る時には、また赤茶けた岩壁が現れた。どことなく優しい表情に見えた。
<In the evening, as we left the park, the reddish-brown rock walls appeared again. It looked gentle.>
本当に良かった。学生の頃の思い出のままだった。
<This trip was fabulous. The park was the same with my precious memory.>
